HOW MUCH DOES A WEBSITE COST?

"What's your budget?"

It’s one of the most common, and most uncomfortable, questions in the early stages of any website design conversation.

For many small business owners and entrepreneurs, the honest answer is: "I have no idea."

You don’t want to sound like you’re lowballing your website designer, but you also don’t want to throw out a number that leaves money on the table. And to make matters worse, when you start Googling website prices, the answers are all over the place. You’ll see everything from $500 DIY kits to $50,000+ custom builds, and everything in between.

Let’s take some of the mystery out of it. Here’s how much you can expect to spend on a website built by RB Collaborative…

What Our Website Packages Include

We build beautiful, strategic websites that help small businesses and nonprofits show up confidently online. Here's what you can expect when working with us:

  • Base Price – $2,000
Our base package will provide you with an optimized 5-page website [think Home, About, Services, Contact, and one additional page]. It includes custom design, mobile responsiveness, and basic SEO.

  • Most Clients Spend Between $2,500 and $7,000
This range covers more robust sites with multiple pages or dropdown menus, a blog setup, portfolio galleries, and simple integrations like newsletter signups or booking tools.

  • $7,000+ for Complex Builds
E-commerce functionality, member portals, complex customizations, or websites with heavy custom coding fall into this category.

And if you're a nonprofit? We offer discounted pricing because we believe in supporting organizations that are doing good in the world. Reach out and let’s chat. We’d love to help you make your mission more visible.

What Else Affects Website Pricing?

Every website is different, which means there are a few other factors that can nudge your quote higher [or lower], depending on your needs:

  • Domain + Email
While not expensive, things like domain registration and professional email setup are often overlooked. Domains are often around $20/year, but the final cost will depend on your specifics.

  • Squarespace Hosting Fees
We exclusively use Squarespace for our website builds, and they offer four different hosting packages. This ranges from $16/month to $99/month [paid annually] depending on your business needs. For example, if you are looking to create an online storefront, you’ll need one of the higher tiers, but a simple 5-page website may be just fine with the base package.

Fun fact: if you work with us, you’ll get 20% off your subscription for the first year!

  • Branding
If you already have a strong visual identity [logo, colors, fonts], great! If not, we can point you in the right direction for some fabulous graphic designers.

  • Copywriting
Clear, compelling website copy is essential. If you’ve already got content ready to go, you’re ahead of the game. Need some help with that? We can include that in your package.

  • Photography
Strong visuals make a huge difference. We recommend investing in a professional photo shoot if you don’t already have recent, high-quality photos ready.

  • Custom Code + High Security
This is where your costs can really shoot up. If you need a lot of custom coding, animations, effects, or databases, or if you have stringent and specific security needs, your build will be much more expensive. For projects like this, we are happy to refer you to a web developer who can custom-code a site for you from scratch.

Make Business- and Budget-Friendly Website Decisions

If you’re like most small business owners, you don’t have an endless budget for your website. The good news is that there are things you can do to reduce your costs, and still end up with a website you’ll be proud of.

  • Start with a strong foundation
Begin with what you really need now, not what you might need five years down the line. You can always grow your website over time. A solid 5-page site can serve you well and evolve as your business does.

  • Prioritize function over flash
Animations and fancy effects are fun, but if your budget is tight, it’s better to invest in clean design, intuitive navigation, and clear calls to action.

  • Use what you already have
Have a logo you like? Great. High-quality photos from a recent shoot? Perfect. Clear service descriptions written for your brochures or social media? Let’s use them. Reusing or repurposing assets can save time and money.

  • Be honest about DIY vs done-for-you
Don’t miss the forest for the trees. Yes, you could try to DIY your site, but what’s the cost in time, frustration, or missed opportunities? Sometimes the most budget-friendly decision is hiring someone who can do it right, and fast.

  • Ask about phased approaches
Not every feature needs to launch at once. We can build your site in phases: start with the essentials, and add on features like a blog, shop, or portfolio as your business grows and your budget allows.

At the end of the day, your website should work for you. It should reflect your brand, support your goals, and be easy for your customers to use.
